Knox County Public Library
Vincennes citizens and public officials began their quest for a Carnegie Library in 1901 and met with success in 1910 when the city was offered a grant of $30,000. The offer was increased to $35,000 in 1916 (accounting for an increase in population). The following year the city purchased the lot at 7th and Seminary Streets for $12,000 and awarded the general contract for construction to T. Frank Willis. The library, designed by local architect John B. Bayard, is in the Collegiate Gothic style. The building was dedicated on April 15, 1919. Ligonier Public Library
The Ligonier Public Library was one of 2,811 libraries that were built by Andrew Carnegie. The first library in Noble County to be built, it was completed in 1908. The library has experienced a gradual growth in both the book collection and the number of patrons that frequent it. Starting with 1,000 books, the collection has grown to over 31,000 different items with thousands of Evergreen Indiana patrons being served. Although book borrowing is still the major service, other services have become available to patrons. Among these are DVDs, CDs, interlibrary loans, painting and print loans, and computer access. In 1975, a new addition was added to the library which houses the adult fiction section, community room, and office. In the fall of 2013, ground was broken for a new renovation and expansion project which increased the square footage to twice the space. The project was under undertaken by Kelty Tappy Design Inc., of Fort Wayne, IN. During the time of construction, the library was relocated to 905 1/2 Lincolnway S. Once the project was nearly completed the library returned to our main building and reopened April 13, 2015. The new addition includes new computer labs, a large community room with kitchen, a new fiction area, additional restrooms, a young adult area, patio, and staff office space.

The Lake Village Book Club gathered to form the Lake Village Memorial Township Library in 1944 to serve as a living memorial to the local soldiers of WWII. The group collected two hundred books and over $200 to use for the Library. The first Library was housed in an unused basement classroom at Lake Village Elementary School, and Mrs. Dorothy Arbuckle was hired to serve as Librarian.
Each family in the community was assessed $1 per year until 1946, when the Library was approved as a free township Library by the State of Indiana. In 1947 the Library was moved into Lloyd Arbuckle’s building, and a lovely wooden book sign was made. That sign is located in the present Lake Township Room at Lake Village Memorial Township Library.

Lake Village Memorial Township Library offers an expanded space for its collection, and boasts private study rooms, a community room capable of seating 55, display cases, and children’s programming space. The Lake Township Room has many local history resources, including past editions of “The Villager” newspaper, information about Jennie Conrad, and local native artifact information. The Kocoshis family donated an engraved black marble stone that graced the front of the original Library, to the right of the entrance. That stone was moved to the lobby of the Lake Village Memorial Township Library when the new facility was built in 2005.
